About

Hello everyone! I’m Rushikesh Tahakik , the face behind this new Biotechnology Professionals, Scientists, and Students Network . What began as a simple WhatsApp group has now grown into a vibrant community. More than 776 members have joined us so far, and 230+ people actively responded to the recent poll—which shows how engaged and enthusiastic this community is. Seeing this response, I felt that instead of sending scattered messages in the group, we need a structured, accessible, and valuable platform. So, I have decided to create a Biotech Newsletter that will provide: Latest updates and breakthroughs in biotechnology Useful protocols and practical lab notes I have collected over the years E-books and study resources from my personal library Opportunities for members to share their own articles, notes, or research material Free access to all students, early-career researchers, and professionals who want to learn and grow My goal is to build a supportive, collaborative communi...

How to write a winning SOP - Statement of purpose for Internship/Foreign University/PhD Application

Generally, People who are applying for internships/short or long term research project or degree from foreign university much aware of the job of SOP and LOR; SOP is a short essay or paragraph. An SOP (statement of purpose) talks about the previous experience – National and international exposure research aptitude and academic qualifications included – and it must say why you think you’re fit for a course. It must capture your zeal and enthusiasm to get enrolled. Here, I will share with you my way of writing an SOP as requested by some undergrad students who were unclear about SOP writing 1. Write about that turning point. ❤️ - everyone has a spark or point in life when they might have decided to take up science as a career. Love or passion for pursuing science 2. WHY you really need this opportunity ❓️- make it clear about the areas that you want to get trained in specific, su...

Cow’s antibodies could be the newest weapon against COVID-19

Image
Time for a different type of HERD IMMUNITY!🐄 Last week it was reported that a biopharmaceutical company in the US are using genetically modified cows to produce antibodies that could help us to fight COVID-19. I was intrigued when I saw the headline so had to do some more digging. As coronavirus marches around the globe, a sleepy town on the rugged Maine coast has become an unlikely nucleus in researchers’ efforts to combat the disease, known as COVID-19. The Jackson Laboratory, a is rushing to produce stocks of a transgenic animal that scientists hope will help them to understand the virus. . So what makes cows so special? Cows make good antibody factories, and not just because they have more blood than smaller animals engineered to synthesize human versions of the proteins. Their blood can also contain twice as many antibodies per millilitre as human blood Well, they actually produce a load of antibodies. Because they have more blood than humans but they can also produce twice as ma...

Dear Bestfriend, I was waiting for the right time from many days to tell you this but now I’m taking out all my courage to confess this. People said that best friends are friendzoned  people I do not agree with it Our friendship never started with love. But now I think I’m falling for you. Yes, I love you. I’ve loved you since the first time you cared about me in my bad days. I love you since the time we started making fun of each other. Surprised? Yeah you should be. I love the way you care for me. I love you for your support in my right things and scoldings in the wrong. I love the way you do idiotic stuffs with me. I love the way you take off time for me from your busy schedule. You know what’s hard?  Keep smiling face and making fun of you when you tell me about your Crush.  Now imagine how I felt when you told me about the guy you were dating. But it was not much hard for me earlier but it becomes challenging for me too.  I managed that thing by writing my feeli...

Stereochemistry an Introduction

Image
Stereochemistry an Introduction I'm made to realise that I'm not clear enough or good at something, I try to make myself clear with it. It happened , I am preparing for my exam during my preparation for Exam , The question was asked about Stereoisomer but, unfortunately, I was not very clear with the molecular reason behind it.(but, still I managed to answer the question as I know the theoretical information from my notes, but, knowing the molecular mechanism behind each concept clearly is very important, isn't it?). But, nothing is wrong in it, I made myself clear with it now. That's good, right? So, let me share with you some basic principle and an introduction with Streochemistry and how it affects molecular structure, Biochemistry and Metabolism so here we go Just like with any other field of science, chemistry is not two dimensional. To get an accurate chemical analysis, the three-dimensional spatial arrangements of the atoms (and ions) in the molec...

Tuberculosis & COVID-19 Pandemic

Image
Tuberculosis & COVID-19 Pandemic Corona-viruses are a large family of viruses that usually cause mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses, like the common cold, in people. There are hundreds of corona-viruses, most of which circulate among animals including pigs, camels, bats, and cats. Sometimes those viruses jump to humans—called a spillover event—and can cause disease. After a Pandemic outbreak from china, The disease is now called COVID-19 .  The virus has caused a widespread outbreak of disease similar to SARS throughout China, with exported cases occurring in 183 other countries, including India.  Ultrastructure of  COVID-19 But, you need not suffer from this evil COVID-19, else we can say, you will not get affected with COVID-19 at all if you had vaccinated with Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) (Vaccine for Tuberculosis) Yes! Sam Behar, and his colleague at the Department of Microbiology, University of Massachusetts...

Be Ready for Fail if you are a Biotechnologist ..

Fail? ? ?  "Oh,  on, you should not say like this" Is this what you are feeling, after looking at this title? If so, don't worry, I'm not meaning this in a negative way as you think. Everyone in life has ups and downs. What about this field of Biotechnology? It's not preferred by many students.  Yes, I agree, it is not like the IT field, you can't find a perfect job after completing just your under-graduation, even if you find a job, that won't pay you much. So, obviously, people will go for areas which would give them a bagful of money. "You think, Biotechnology is worthless then? you say, you won't get paid?", is this your next question? If so, I'm not saying that. Biotechnology, here, you can achieve heights only after years of enthusiasm and work in your laboratory. It's not the matter of earning money. This field is for people who want to achieve or discover something which is in your own body, in plants around you  in animals an...

Using Biotechnology to Detect and Treat Disease

Image
Let it is any disease, ranging from a fever (which is the symptom of many diseases) to HIV, COVID-19, diagnosis at an early stage is very important for giving specific treatment. Whenever I go to a doctor, he asks me things like stomach pain, fever, body pain, headache, running nose, throat pain, etc., then, he checks pulse, then he uses his stethoscope, he then gives all the possible antibiotics! Yes, really, this happens in most cases. Then, if my problem is not fixing up in a week, he'll ask me to take a blood test, this, that, and, all! Nothing wrong in  this, because he can't ask everyone coming to him to take a blood test at the very first sitting, then, no one will visit him back saying he sucks out blood all the time! But, it is okay to have a blood test after a week, but, not after a month! Diagnosing a disease after it had reached a severe stage is comparatively less significant than diagnosing at an early stage. So, how to diagnose? Antigen-Antibody! ...
